Front Yard Food

Grow Food Not Lawns

Grow food not lawns, that’s the idea.

For us it all started 3 years ago when we decided to put a small 12×12 garden in our yard. Our backyard was relatively flat and had nice grass. Perfect for lawn games and kicking a soccer ball. The garden definitely couldn’t go there.

Our front yard; on the other hand, wasn’t flat at all, was more dandelions than grass and was a pain to mow. I started to question what the point was of a front yard that’s only function was to require me to mow it…

When I drove around town I was amazed at how many properties had similar front yard situations. Large, mostly flat rectangular patches of grass, often in full sun…

Things have certainly progressed since then and what a journey it has been. Lots more to come, stay tuned!
